They have to work hard for their living and currents are high so efficiency is important to stop it getting hot and there are various other performance parameters involved in selecting the right one. Nothing wrong with getting a bargain price on a good one but the really inexpensive ones are unlikely to be up to running a proper industrial rated single phase motor on compressor duties.

If I have to buy new I generally get my caps from Cricklewood Electronics the cheapest I have found so far New 30uf Cap. Off to rummage through my cap stock for something close. Gents thanks very much for the response and a special thanks to John for the book, however as KWIL quite rightly points out it does not mention the motors capacitor sizes just states a part number for the complete motor.Ī more detailed read of the motor plate shows it as a "TDA90SZ-H" motor the same plate shows the following "MFD 30/200" this ties in roughly with what you would expect to see as values for run and start capacitors of a 1.1kw motor, so adopting Grahams method went to Brook Crompton's site and whilst I couldnt find the exact model (due to age I guess) i did find a similar motor 1.1kw TDA90SK which uses the same 30/200 uf setup.
Nothing in the handbooks about capacitor size. Sorry can't help with the capacitor size as mine are 3 phase Paul sent you the book to your Yahoo account. Or better still does anyone have a service manual or handbook for this type of compressor. My little 1990's Hydrovane 501 compressor has let the "Magic smoke" out of it's run capacitor if anyone has one of these do you know what the value of this capacitor is?
